“It’s so cool to be at a party with writers I LOVE!”
We all so enjoyed mingling with a host of starts from the children’s literary world. Authors, illustrators, literary agents and organisers were keen to exchange news and asked us loads of questions. BGS has played host to many of the authors who sought us out for a chat: David Almond, Sarah Benwell, Julia Green, Marie-Louise Jensen, Joe Berger and Martin Brown to name but a few.
Speeches, particularly those from the (returning) Artistic Directors John and Gill McLay, affirmed that we were in the right place:
“We are here not watch, but to play a part in the evolving landscape of children’s literature and to see for ourselves the wonderment on a child’s face when meeting the hero who has written his or her favourite book”. Yes, indeed!
Roll on our BGS-sponsored event with YA authors Joe Abercrombie and Philip Reeve at 5.15pm on Saturday 3 October in the Guildhall.
We are looking forward to interviewing both of them beforehand.
