Kudos for Chris, brilliant badges, raving about Reeve – and more!

Congratulations to Chris Riddell, author of a multitude of wonderful children’s books – including The Edge Chronicles (with Paul Stewart) – and twice-winner of the Kate Greenaway Award, who is our new Children’s Laureate. We recall two wonderful visits here by Chris, with Paul, in 2005 and 2009.

We are lucky enough to have hosted visits for seven out of the nine Children’s Laureates. Wow! If you would like to take a cheeky gander at the Hall of Fame (ie all those who have visited BGS in the last 15 years) please click here.

If you would like a sneak peek at the merchandise advertising debut novelist Gilly Macmillan’s launch of her superb thriller, Burnt Paper Sky (which we predict will be a sure-fire hit!), here in September then look no further:

Rail Head, Philip Reeve’s new book (coming out in the Autumn) is my top pick of the now: it is a futuristic, rail-riding adventure that rattles along at top speed, featuring talking trains and an unforgettable hero, Zen Starling. We are proud to be sponsoring Philip’s event with Joe Abercrombie at the Bath Festival of Children’s Literature this Autumn. We hope to see you there! More details to follow soon.

Last, but my no means least, we are very excited at the prospect of hosting a visit here with children’s author Shane Hegarty in October. His novel, Darkmouth, was the Waterstones Book of the Month in May!
