Having written several informative and interesting non-fiction books on current, often hard hitting, stories, Misha Glenny visited the Upper Sixth on 18 January for their weekly lecture. During his visit he talked briefly about the books he had written, including the recently published Nemesis concerning drug trafficking in Brazil’s favelas. However, he soon turned the topic to the pressing matter of the Syrian refugee crisis and actually took the time to explain the history which was very useful to educate us in current affairs.
He talked in a way that was accessible, understandable and engaging, probably as he was once the Europe correspondent for the BBC and The Guardian! Overall it was an event enjoyed by all and we all came out of the talk feeling far more educated than when we entered.
