Year Six Book Club is Back

Today was the first meeting of the BGS Year Six Book Club.  For the rest of the academic year the seven lucky students will be looking at all things book related. This will include writing book reviews, blogging about what they want to see in books, and helping me (Miss F) to organise and plan future literary events for the Infant and Junior Schools.

To start things off the students were given a copy of one of my favourite MG books ‘The Dream Snatcher’ by Abi Elphinstone, a fun magnetic bookmark, and a pencil so they can write me a list of their favourite books. They were very excited about this and I will be posting their reviews of the book in the coming weeks. Once these goodies were handed out we got to the serious business of discussing what I want from book club and what the students would like to get out of it. The year six students are clearly very passionate about reading and want to help inspire their friends to read books, so we are going to create posters to put around the school that show off books that we think people should try. We also spoke about what it is that makes a good book. The discussion about this was so interesting that I will be posting about this in the next few days.

At the end of the meeting I gave the year six students a clue about the brilliant author that I have coming to visit BGS years 4 and 5 in the Summer Term. I wonder if any of them will guess who it is…
